On Saturday morning, April 14, 2012, God in his infinite wisdom came by Southside Regional Medical Center and picked up one of his angels, Mr. James (Bubbee/Fats) Goode.
James was born November 9, 1953.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. James B. Murphy, mother, Annie M. Goode, sister, Annie Ruth Goode, a step son, Bryant Thomas and a devoted nephew, Reginald "Buster" Hunley.
He attended Peabody High School where he was a star football player.
He was a dedicated employee at the Southside Virginia Training Center for 31 years and retired in December 2011.
James was active and served in his community as well. He was voted one of the first recipients of the Parents Association Awards at the Southside Virginia Training Center. He was a member of both the Southside Virginia Traning Center's choir and the Straight Up baseball team. James was also a member of the Voices of Joy and he played for the Blazers Basketball team for many years.
He was a dedicated member of the Delectable Heights reunion planning committee.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Mabel Goode of Petersburg, VA; two loving sons, Deon Hill (Keri) of Raleigh, NC, Jaquan Goode of Petersburg, VA; one step daughter, Twilah Vizcarrondo of Prince George; one granddaughter, Zion D. Hill of Newport News, VA; four step grandsons, Ravon Jaire', Karon and Jamarie; five sisters, Odelia Gibbs of Dolphin, VA Scarlett Hunley of Chesapeake,VA, Rosa Waddell (Samuel), Rita Jones (Rickey) and Brenda Murphy all of Petersburg; one brother, Eric Murphy (Glenda) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; mother-in-law, Lorine Thomas of New York; four brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; a host of loving nieces, nephews and loving friends of the family, among them, Jeronica, Shakwanna and Carolyn Page, Master Jay'Vion Williams of Petersburg and many more devoted friends, among them, his Southside Virginia Training Center family and the fellas.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Petersburg where the pastor is Rev. Wesley K. McLaughlin. Rev. Alexander Williams, pastor of Big Bethel, McKinney, will officiate, and Rev. Charles Williams will eulogize. Interment will follow in the Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery, Petersburg.
